We would recommend getting away from web-based email and installing Thunderbird, the best free-standing email program around. Thunderbird has an extension you can download and install called Enigmail which encrypts your emails so no one but you and your recipients can read them. Thunderbird’s default is to send the email without encryption, so we think this add-on is a must.
But … if you need webmail—there are times when we all need it, like when we’re on the road without our computers—we strongly recommend going with movement services such as Riseup or May First/People Link.
